the roommates

We are a couple of queers looking for a roommate to help loosen our finances while I (zel, on the right) work on my disability application/ case. We’ve lived in our apartment for two years, and we have an adorable orange cat (who will probably want to be your best friend).
Finn (on left) is an early education teacher at a nearby preschool, and I am a writer and artist, when my disabilities arent kicking my ass.
Finn loves to cook, and I love to bake. We can be very loud during the day but are usually in bed between 9:30 and 11pm.
We are both Audhders, and from traumatized homes, so we prioritize a lot of somatic safety and coziness in our home.
We also both are leftist-leaning, identifying with an anarchist politic of abolition and community care.
we are both on testosterone so we keep the house very cold.

apartment details

the apartment is the top floor of a historic home that was converted. there are two other apartments in this home/ on this lot. one downstairs, and one to the left.
there are abundant gardening spaces outdoors, off street parking in a large driveway, and a fire pit in the backyard.
We live one block from the intersection of thompsons and the peoples coop on cross st. So literally, in depot town. there is a 42 bus stop directly in front of the house (cross and park stop).
It’s also a pretty easy walk to where EMU is on cross st. and to downtown thru riverside park.
the apartment is very cozy, but it does have its cons: the hardwood floors are creaky, weird steps, there is only one bathroom, most of the house is unlevel due to being very old and settled, it’s on a hill, it’s upstairs.
vaping inside is fine but due to air circulation issues, we don’t smoke upstairs at all.
inside the house the vibe is colorful queer, cottagecore hygge. there’s a smart tv in the living room with a dvd player (we collect our comfort movies), a large couch, and a 1.5 size chair/ loveseat, as well as our two desks.
we collect books and 2D media which you would be welcome to peruse and borrow.

bills breakdown

rent (1310) (water/ trash included)

roommate agreement vs lease

we would prefer to negotiate and sign a roommate agreement, than to add someone to our current lease. to add anyone to our current lease will make rent go up $100/ month. Plus then whoever moves in is trapped in that lease, regardless of if living together is something we want to do for the rest of the lease. (until August 2027).
potentially a roommate agreement could look something like this:
